New GeoGalleries 2.0 Now Online

Designed to reach a wider audience than ever before, the new mobile-first GeoGalleries experience makes it easier for collectors to discover, view, and purchase your artwork as museum-quality giclée prints, on any device.

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of the all-new GeoGalleries, built to help artists in theFinerWorks community sell more prints and expand their reach. The updated platform gives every artist their own dedicated GeoGalleries site, while also featuring their work in the main GeoGalleries marketplace for increased visibility.

Best of all, this service is free for existing FinerWorks customers with an active program.

A paid option will be introduced later for non-FinerWorks artists. Current GeoGalleries users will be grandfathered in at no cost, with no changes to their existingaccount or status.

We encourage all existing GeoGalleries members to log in to the FinerWorks dashboard and update their profile to take full advantage of the new platform. Over the coming weeks, we’ll continue refining the site with updates and improvements as we identify bugs and enhance performance.

We are putting the finishing touches on the new GeoGalleries. While there are still a few “rough edges” we’re smoothing out, we are confident that this evolution will provide the professional platform your art deserves.

Managed by FinerWorks

To provide a more seamless experience, FinerWorks will now fully manage and own the GeoGalleries platform. By bringing the management 100% under the FinerWorks roof, we can ensure a tighter integration between your gallery and our production fulfillment. This means faster updates, more reliable support, and a direct line from your storefront to our printing facility.

Designed for a Mobile-First World

You may notice a significant change in how the site looks and feels. We’ve designed the new GeoGalleries with a mobile-first philosophy.

Today, the majority of web traffic happens on mobile devices.  Potential buyers are more likely to discover your art while browsing sites on their phones. Our new design ensures that your images load quickly and look stunning on small screens, with intuitive navigation that makes “buying on the go” easier than ever.

Your Art, Your Brand: Personalized Subdomains

While the main geogalleries.com site will still feature a central gallery with searchable categories, our primary focus has shifted. We want to empower you to build your own brand.

The real power of the new GeoGalleries is the ability to have your own dedicated site via a personalized subdomain. Instead of just being a profile in a sea of other artists, you can direct your fans to a professional, branded URL.

Example: Instead of a generic link, your shop would be located at yourusername.geogalleries.com.

Curating a High-Quality Marketplace

GeoGalleries is a destination for art collectors. To maintain the integrity of the platform, we are implementing stricter curation standards.

We want to ensure that the public-facing gallery represents professional-grade photography and art. While we all love a cute photo of a pet sleeping on the couch, that isn’t what the general GeoGalleries audience is looking to purchase. By maintaining high quality, we enhance the perception of every artist on the site.

Sustainability and Membership Plans

As GeoGalleries grows, the costs of hosting high-resolution imagery and maintaining a global marketplace grow with it. To ensure we can keep the lights on and continue innovating, we are introducing a new membership structure:

  • Existing Customer Plan (FREE): If you are an existing FinerWorks customer, you will be grandfathered into a free membership. This is our way of saying thank you for your continued loyalty.
  • The Paid Plan ($10/mo): All new signups will be placed on our Paid Membership plan, starting at $10 per month. This ensures that every new artist joining the platform is committed to growing their business alongside us.

When someone buys one of your printed products, the order is automatically forwarded to FinerWorks for fulfillment and shipped to the buyer. Within 30 days, once the order ships, details of the order (including the buyer) will be available to you.

This can be done using your gallery’s URL. The link will look something like this https://my_username.geogalleries.com.

Make sure you replace “my_username” with your actual name.

FinerWorks virtual inventory is a system that allows artists and photographers to save their artwork as pre-configured products within their FinerWorks account. Instead of having to re-upload and set up a print’s specifications (like size, paper type, and framing) every time an order comes in, a virtual inventory item acts like a blueprint for a product. This streamlines the print-on-demand and order fulfillment process.

How It Works

The system is designed to simplify selling on third-party platforms like Shopify, Squarespace, WooCommerce or Etsy. Here’s a breakdown of the key steps:

  • Create Virtual Inventory Items: An artist uploads their digital image to FinerWorks. They then create a virtual inventory item from this image, which involves specifying all the product details like size, print medium (e.g., giclée fine art paper, canvas), and framing options. Each virtual inventory item is assigned a unique **SKU** (Stock Keeping Unit) that begins with “AP”.
  • Sync with an Online Store: The artist lists the product in their own online store (e.g., a framed print of their artwork). When they create the listing, they enter the unique SKU from FinerWorks’ virtual inventory into the SKU field of their store’s product variant.
  • Order Fulfillment: When a customer purchases the product from the artist’s online store, the order is transmitted to FinerWorks through an integration app (e.g., for Shopify or Etsy). FinerWorks uses the SKU to identify the exact product from the virtual inventory and produces it on demand.
  • Shipping and Branding: FinerWorks then prints, packages, and ships the product directly to the customer. The packing slip and shipping label can be customized with the artist’s name and logo, making it appear as though the order was shipped directly from them.

Key Advantages

  • Efficiency: It eliminates the need for artists to manually set up each print each time they order, saving a significant amount of time, especially for those with high order volumes or who sell the same products repeatedly.
  • Print on Demand: Artists don’t need to hold physical inventory. Prints are only created when an order is placed, reducing waste and financial risk.
  • Integration: It connects an artist’s online storefront with FinerWorks’ fulfillment center, creating a smooth, automated workflow from sale to delivery.

Only lower resolution web versions of the images are shown. These contain a watermark which provides some protection. If you are too worried that people will copy your web viewable images, we recommend not participating in the gallery experience.

Starting in 2026, existing GeoGalleries members will be able to continue to use and offer GeoGalleries. New members must be a paying FinerWorks customer or can sign up to be a paid registered artist.

Aside from having artistic value, the image must be a suitable print quality/resolution. It must also be properly titled,  include a well written description, and be submitted to the appropriate category and assigned to a collection.

No. Buyers can only purchase printed works.

Reporting of your sales is done through the Geo Galleries reporting interface. Sales are shown after an order is shipped.

Geo Galleries sets the retail price at 3x’s the cost as of July 2022. To see the retail price as your customers would; you must be logged out of your FinerWorks account.

GeoGalleries prices prints at three times the standard FinerWorks print cost (frames and mats are not included in this markup).

Artists can also earn 10% shared revenue on any frames, mats, or glazing that are added to the order. Because of this, offering your artwork framed and matted is strongly recommended.

When a print is sold, GeoGalleries keeps a seller’s fee. This fee includes:

  • The base cost of the unframed print (what the artist would normally pay FinerWorks), and
  • An additional 10% administrative fee, calculated from the unframed print cost.

Example:
If a large canvas print costs $100 at FinerWorks, GeoGalleries will list it for $300.

When the print sells, the artist receives the remaining amount after the $100 print cost, and a $30 administrative fee is deducted

You must have a PayPal account. Your earnings will be paid out on a monthly basis for any sales 30 days or older.

We plan to integrate a new system that will allow direct payment to your financial institution, which will allow weekly payments as the platform grows. When this will happen is not set, but it will be announced in the newsletter.

Geo Galleries will offer a set of default print products; however, if you have a set of 3 or more print products in your virtual inventory assigned to the image you are showing, then this will be used in place of the default products.

Geo Galleries will reserve the right to adjust based on the advice of FinerWorks production staff when it comes to optimizing the file for printing. This will be limited to any necessary sizing and cropping adjustments or color correction as FinerWorks deems necessary. Artists’ recommended adjustments may be considered; however are not guaranteed.
