I have to say that some artists used to come to the world of printing with a distinct disadvantage compared to photographers.

Can you recommend a good paper to proof my work with? Its a question we do get quite often. Some of those that follow my blog might have heard me say in the past that not all papers are created equal. Throw in canvas with that even though canvas is not a paper.

You might know that there is a wide range of image file types. The majority of types were pretty much decided upon years ago with many of them made mainstream by both the web as well as software firms such as Adobe. The most popular type is the JPG.

Giclee printing is a digital printing method so the quality of the resulting print depends on the quality of the image being provided to print. This is because giclee printing is utilizing similar technology you would probably use to print a photograph at home.

Just a couple years ago the production manager at FinerWorks surprised me with what she was able to do with a canvas print which had accidentally been scratched. A customer had ordered a large stretched canvas print of a wedding photo.

You will want to share this with any photographers or artists you know. Beware of those Groupon, Amazon or other canvas print specials by e-mail. Not that all are bad but with canvas prints, many times you get what you pay for.

Are the fine art prints we produce as giclee prints archival? And if so, what makes them archival? This is a frequent inquiry people have. The loose answer would be yes, but with the understanding that paper brands occasionally take liberties with the word Archival, sometimes referring to Conservation Grade papers as Archival.
