About Us

Artists and photographers first began using FinerWorks in 1999 however we official coined our company name as FinerWorks in 2003. We began with making prints exclusively on canvas but soon added fine art papers. Our web technology is setup so people at all levels can order fine art prints of their work on the same sort of papers and canvas placed in galleries, hotels and homes of collectors. Many of our customers are actually showing their work in venues like these or even having them custom made on for their own clients.

No. We have found non facemounted acrylics to be subpar in image quality therefore we have moved to the more popular face mounted acrylic print option which is able to take advantage of both the superior color gamut and resolution that modern inkjet offers on high quality photo papers as well as the protective face of an acrylic front which gives acrylic prints an extra dimension in contrast and vividness

Yes, we can for quantities of 5 or more of the exact same time. Contact us direct since our website does not allow for ordering all custom sizes in acrylic prints.

The method used to create the acrylic prints we offer will provide little risk in fading unless exposed to direct sunlight over a length of time. Since acrylic is a type of polycarbonate, very hot conditions such as a hot car exposed to sunlight can potentially cause it to warp. It is best to keep it indoors in comfortable living conditions exist to prevent this from happening. Also a good measure to help reinforce the acrylic print is the optional die bond backing.

Absolutely. Our goal is to represent you, and we wouldn’t be doing that very well if we didn’t advertise your brand for you! Find out how to add your logo to your account here.

Dependent upon the what is to be inserted, we can setup a method of doing this if you are ordering on a daily and sometimes weekly basis. Contact us ahead of time to discuss special packaging needs and/or inserts.

The packing slip will not display any prices or FinerWorks information. In addition, the return address on the shipping label has the name, company and address you entered in the billing phase of your check out. If you want to see how this looks for yourself, just check the drop ship option the next time you place an order (even if ordering for yourself).

If you have registered with FinerWorks there is an area within your account where you can save your business information such as the company name, department or contact person and address. As long as you have added your business, we will use this information as the sender in place of your order’s billing information.

When you are registered with FinerWorks and login to your account, you will see an area in which you can enter business information. Included here is the ability to upload a logo. This will serve two purposes. One, it will cause your orders to automatically have the drop ship option checked (you can always uncheck this on the order review page if you don’t want the order drop shipped) and second it will make any drop shipped orders include your logo. Your logo will be displayed both on the packing slip. For canvas and art paper prints ordered through our San Antonio location we also will include a label on the outside of the shipping package with your logo. Visit our YouTube channel to see how to upload your logo to your account.

When you login to your account visit the quick checkout page. This stores the billing and shipping information you intend to use for your orders. When it comes time to placing an order, your checkout page will be populated with this information. Obviously if you do not anticipate shipping your orders to the same customer each time, you may want to leave the “Shipping” fields blank. While about 30% of our drop shippers use PayPal you can also opt to keep a credit card on file. If keeping a card on file be aware that we don’t store the actual card number beyond the expiration date and last 4 digits, but instead a payment access token generated by the payment processor which can only be used when you order on this site.

Your Account offers you the ability to store a finite number of images based upon your account type. You can categorize these in various custom galleries you setup. Adding images is quite simple. After logging in, go to the “My Images” link which will take you to a batch uploading tool. Select the image files you want to upload and they will be uploaded to your account. You can order prints from these image anytime you want so you do not have to re-upload them each time. This saves a lot of time, especially if you have large image files. These uploads will be stored securely and inaccessible to the public. Whenever you place an order for a print from one of these images, a copy of your high resolution image will be forwarded to our production department for printing.

Creating a virtual inventory of prints (or cards) you think you will be ordering on a regular basis can save you a lot of time later on. Once you have uploaded images to your account in your personal galleries, you can setup individual giclee prints or cards with different size and styles. These will be stored in “My Prints Inventory“. When you need to have an order drop shipped to your customer, just go there and add the print you need to your cart. It saves you the time because you won’t have to go through the entire print setup process each time you want to order that print.

If you are based outside of the U.S. and want your order drop shipped, we recommend you enter your business information within your account but use our address. This prevents confusion and potential problems which can occur with the shipping service or even customs. This also helps us since we must use a U.S. based address on the customs forms.

You can login to the order status page or go to your order history (if you have an account). Toward the bottom of the copy of the order we will post your tracking number for orders shipping from our San Antonio printing center, usually shortly after your order is shipped.

Whenever we ship an order we will send an e-mail notice to the e-mail address you provided in your billing information. This email will include a link where you can access a copy of this order as well as tracking information when made available. Note that orders shipped from our partner lab may not always have tracking information available.

With lost prints, we may require an additional several days depending on the time frame the order was shipped in the instance an order is running late or transit information has not been updated by the courier.

Fine Art Papers

A giclee prints is a way to classify a professionally produced print using inkjet technology, primarily printed on canvas or a fine art paper with archival grade inks. While the process is only several decades old, it has quickly become the method of choice for both artists and photographers. Read more

All framed prints, acrylic prints, stretched and mounted canvas prints and metal prints will arrive ready-to-hang. Some other prints such as wood prints may have options that also allow for them to be ready to hang.

Both Epson and Canon promotes their inks as being resistant to fading over time and our parent company has been producing canvas prints since around 2001. In that time we have had no one contact us and indicate their print had faded.

Choosing the paper that best compliments your artwork or photography is how you should gauge which paper is best. While our staff will be happy to offer suggestions sometimes the best choice won’t be obvious until you view the image printed on the paper. There are four characteristics that affect how an image will appear on any of our varied fine art papers: ink absorption, brightness, texture and gloss levels (if any). We recommend a good start is to test printing small prints on different papers as well as to order one of our starter kits so that you can see and feel the different papers.

Category: Fine Art Papers

To extend the life-span, store you giclee fine art paper print out of direct sunlight and avoid extreme temperature changes or exposure to humidity. It is recommended that paper prints be framed behind glass or acrylic glazing when ultimately on display. If kept in a retail environment unframed you should keep the prints sealed in clear bags which are acid free like what we offer for sale on our website.

Category: Fine Art Papers

Some papers have more difficulty in flattening our then others. This is especially true during the cooler months but can happen during any time of the year. The papers the prints are produced on are originally in rolls and the prints are printed to these rolls. I most cases we will ship prints up to a certain size flat so that they have had time to loose their curl and flatten out however this is not a guarantee. Thicker or heavier weight papers may still need more time to flatten out. We have a blog posting on our site which discusses this in more detail as well as some solutions.

Fixing Prints Which Curl

Category: Fine Art Papers

In most cases your prints will not be coated and definitely not laminated. In some instances we may need to coat prints which have large expanses of dark colors in them such as solid black backgrounds. This is to help alleviate potential scuff marks that are visible within the print if not looking at it behind glass or a clear plastic sleeve.

Category: Fine Art Papers

Yes. The fine art paper prints are printed with a method we refer to as giclee printing. This is a technology that has evolved since the late 20th century to use primarily aqueous wide format printers with archival inks on archival media.

Category: Fine Art Papers

More and more fine art photographers are turning to giclee prints since in many cases photos look better and have a wider color gamut then you might normally experience with traditional photo prints. This was not always the case but advancements in inkjet technology over the past 10 years have allowed the right image with the right paper to offer a superior color gamut and better contrast and depth.

Category: Fine Art Papers

In addition to the standard canvas and art papers FinerWorks offers for online ordering, customers can also choose from a wide range of name brand media types when ordering larger quantities offline. View options here

Category: Fine Art Papers

We do not recommend this. We cannot guarantee any paper print that has been embellished or had paint applied to it. Unlike canvas many of the papers will wilt and warp like most papers when saturated with any sort of liquid base. While some customers have reported success with both acrylic and oil paints when embellishing their fine art paper prints others have reported negative results. If you think you want to try doing this you should consider ordering smaller prints to test and practice the technique that works best for you before attempting with a larger print. Most artists that attempt this will pre-coat their print with either a spray fixative or pray lacquer based coating to seal the print first.

Yes. We offer some special request media types for high volume offline orders. Check the options list and make sure you contact us for a quote when you have an opportunity to place a very large order with FinerWorks.

Framing & Matting

All framed prints, acrylic prints, stretched and mounted canvas prints and metal prints will arrive ready-to-hang. Some other prints such as wood prints may have options that also allow for them to be ready to hang.
For some types of prints you can order custom frames and/or matting when you are setting up your print online. Note not all products can be framed and some styles of prints will be restricted to certain types of framing options.

Sure! Just visit our Frame Moulding Style page to pick out a frame and calculate pricing.

*Matting and acrylic/glazing sold separately

We do. In fact, because frames are “made to order” we do price our custom sizes any differently than those considered to be “standard”.

To price frames only, just visit our Frame Moulding Style page. Find the moulding you'd like to price, and click the blue Order Frame button to calculate frame cost.*

*Matting and acrylic/glazing sold separately

Frame prices do not include any matting or acrylic glazing. To view prices on matting, visit our Picture Frame Matting page.

You can! To purchase matting without a frame, just make sure you include a border on your print. Matting options will be found below sizing.

Matting by itself can be ordered from our Matting Options page.

We do. You can specify matting outter width and height, as well as window width and height when ordering matting by itself.

Currently we do not offer this as part of our framing services.

You can customize your frame's matting. Keep in mind that including matting with your framed print will automatically increase your frame size by a minimum of 3 inches. To adjust the size of your matting, simply adjust your frame's width and height and the matting will automatically adjust to match the frame size.

Glazing is optional and must be purchased separately.* (“Glazing” is the term we use to refer to having your work behind glass). FinerWorks currently does not offer actual glass as the glazing but instead provides a safer and common framer’s alternative in the form of clear acrylic (plexiglass). Acrylic provides an advantage to glass by being lighter and less likely to break during shipping.

*If the glazing selection is not visible during the order process, simply add a border to your print to enable the options. This will not affect your print or frame size.

Glazing is the term we use to refer to having your work behind glass. The purpose of the glazing is to provide protection to your prints. It is not necessary in all instances of a framed print as is the case with a framed canvas, but for prints on fine art papers it is recommended since it protects against scuffing and direct contact. FinerWorks currently does not offer actual glass as the glazing but instead provides a safer and common framer’s alternative in the form of clear acrylic (plexiglass). Acrylic provides an advantage to glass by being lighter and less likely to break during shipping.

We do. View our Acrylic Glass page to view options for acrylic glazing.

Getting a Bad Print

Generally, unless professionally calibrated, computer monitors are going to be very bright.  Also tablets and mobile devices display images with elevated brightness and contrast. These settings mislead people into believing their images are brighter than they usually are. Read more

Since we do not print with “white” inks, the white areas in your print will reflect the tone of your chosen paper in its natural state. Some papers have a slightly warm cast, while others do not. Being informed about the paper you are printing on will help you avoid any surprises. Learn More

This could stem from a number of factors but the first thing to check is your white balance/white points. Another thing that might result in color shifting is submitting your images for print in CMYK mode instead of RGB mode. Find out more about accuracy in print color

If your print arrives damaged, contact us immediately. Once we have received photo snapshots of the damage, we will arrange to either reprint your damaged print, or provide a full refund.

Please contact us within 30 days of placing your order if you are unhappy with your print. Our first goal will be to help you get a satisfactory replacement. If that is not an option we offer a 30 day money back guarantee.

We utilize clear plastic print sleeves for added safety and protection during the transport of your print. The print sleeves used for packing are not intended for re-use. Often because of the amount of tape used to secure the print sleeve for safe travel, the print sleeve is not salvageable.  If you wish to obtain usable clear print sleeves, you can order them here.

Print’s being lost or damaged during shipping is rare however it does happen on occasion (less than 1% of orders are ever reported to us). If this occurs, please contact us by e-mail or phone via our contact page so that we can make arrangements as required. In some instances of damaged prints, UPS will pickup the damaged print so make sure you tell your customer to make it available in the original package for pickup by UPS. With lost prints, we may require an additional several days depending on the time frame the order was shipped in the instance an order is running late or transit information has not been updated by the courier.

Kodak Prints

The difference is in the technology used to print the two. We usually refer to the regular photo prints as lab prints since they are produced by modern digital photo printers. The prints on canvas and art papers are produced with high end inkjet printers. For a more detailed explaination, please visit the following blog post:

Metal Prints

All framed prints, acrylic prints, stretched and mounted canvas prints and metal prints will arrive ready-to-hang. Some other prints such as wood prints may have options that also allow for them to be ready to hang.

No. Instead a process called dye sublimation is used. This turns the inks to a gaseous state that is able to bond to specially treated items like the aluminum panels.

Category: Metal Prints

No. Prepare your file just like you would for any of our prints. We do recommend your file be at least 150 to 300 pixels per inch (ppi) for optimal results.

Category: Metal Prints

Use any non-abrasive cloth or paper town along with a non-ammonia based cleaner or water for best results.

Category: Metal Prints

The coating on the metal which the image fuses to is quite durable therefore the image itself is not too likely to become scratched unless a hard or sharp object comes in contact with it. IT still is wise to treat it generally.

Category: Metal Prints

Framing for metal prints is not currently available but we do intend to offer this in the near future.

Currently, this is not an option we are able to offer.

As an on demand printer, we must adhere to the same regulations and standards that anyone else does. To learn more about protecting your intellectual property, take time to read over one of our recent blogs here.

We no longer differentiate between the two. A basic account is now the same as a gallery account.

Yes. At this time, the Select Gallery is absolutely free to submit images to.

Aside from having artistic value the image must be properly titiled, submitted to the appropriate category, of suitable print quality and have a well written description.

For every image stored within a gallery, an active status must be checked before it is considered live. Likewise, you may easily remove an image by changing its listing from active to inactive.

Absolutely. Our goal is to represent you, and we wouldn’t be doing that very well if we didn’t advertise your brand for you! Find out how to add your logo to your account here.

If you are unable to find the gallery options while logged in, it is likely that your account was originally set up as a basic account. Simply contact us and we will happily upgrade your account to a gallery account for you.

When someone buys your print, you will be contacted by PayPal, who will provide all details of your transaction including the print they purchased, and the customer’s contact and shipping information. More

FinerWorks is not involved in your sales, and has no knowledge of transactions that occur within personal galleries or generating from “Buy Now” buttons. Read more

This will be done using your gallery’s URL. Once logged in, using the dropdown options under “My Account” and select “My Profile Page” to be directed to your gallery. Look to the top of the webpage, to the URL window. This is the same URL you will use to direct customers to your gallery.

We only display low web viewable versions of the images in the Select Gallery. There are mechanisms in place to protect images from being copied but even today any 12 year old with basic grade school computer skills can bypass these. If you are too worried that people will copy your web viewable images, we recommend not participating in the gallery experience.

While we are a big fan of watermarks in the gallery, most artists and photographers appear to not want watermarks displayed. Potential buyers have also shown a tendency to shy away from images with watermarks. Based on that we no longer place watermarks on images omn display.

We do not offer an option for artists to allow their images to be downloaded from any galleries at this time.

Currently, we do not offer custom URLs.

While anyone with a “Gallery Account” can submit to the Select Gallery, we strictly moderate all images to ensure authentic, high quality artwork and photography. Images on our Select Gallery are subject to removal if they do not meet professional and artistic standards.

If you want to accept direct payments from your customers online you will need a PayPal account. Once this is done you will then update your PayPal selling preferences within your FinerWorks account.

PayPal Selling Preferences

First, you will need to have registered as a “Gallery Account”. Assuming this is the case, go to “” runat=”server” style=”box-sizing: border-box; color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-family: ‘Helvetica Neue’, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 20px;”>My Images“. Click the thumbnails to any images you uploaded. This will let you manage your “Buy Now” buttons.

Note that if you do not see this option this will mean you only have a “Basic” account. Please contact us to upgrade to a “Gallery Account”.

If you plan on using us to fulfill your order you should check the shipping page for shipping rates to determine the shipping cost and charge accordingly. Also consider reviewing our blog post titled What to Charge Your Customers for Shipping.

When creating your “Buy Now” or “Add to Cart” buttons you will have the option to set different shipping rates. This will overide any shipping rates you have entered here or in your PayPal account profile.

PayPal allows you to setup Sales Tax or a Value Added Tax (VAT) within your PayPal account profile based upon the buyer's region. If you are receiving payment direct, we recommend doing so based on your regions tax requirements before you start selling.

When somone completes the purchase option of one of your offered prints, PayPal will send you a notification of the order details as well as your customer information. It is your responsibility to fulfill this order in a timely fashion by either having us fulfill the order or you ship it out yourself.

FinerWorks does not monitor your sales. We merely provide tools and an outlet for you to sell prints yourself.

Your print cost is dependent upon a few factors: size, media type, number of copies and style where applicable. Pricing is shown when setup your print. But visit the product links in the main menu for specific pricing of both set sizes. For some products you can calculate custom size pricing.

A real-time preview will be visible as you go through the print setup process.  In addition, a time stamped preview of how your image will be printed will show up in your shopping cart before you submit your order.

If this is not enough, please read our post about 3 ways to proof your work.

It will be up to you to select a print size that compliments your image’s current aspect ratio. If your image file does not quite match those dimensions it will be cropped to accommodate the print size selected. Be sure you pay attention to the realtime preview when you setup your print. If any part of it looks cropped then you may need to choose a different size or adjust the cropping.

The production does it best to check prints for obvious defects within the print itself (paper, ink smudges, scratches, etc). If there is a defect in the image or the image quality of the file itself is poor we will usually assume the artist or photographer is already aware of this. Most of the time they are therefore we will print images without question.

Please note that some prints such as Fuji Crystal Archive Photo prints orcards are produced by automated machinery that produces hundreds of prints a minute so while we may not be able to catch obvious defects or questionable prints these are guaranteed with our quality assurance guarantee.

Test prints (also called proofs) are not standard unless you are placing an offline order in which we are producing a large run (1000 copies or more), but if color matching is a concern, we highly recommend working on a color managed system, or at least investigating in a calibration print prior to ordering.

Yes. Volume pricing is also available when ordering multiple copies of a particular print in the same order. In many instances simply ordering just two copies of a print results in substantial price breaks. Plus the more you order, the lower your cost per print.

To calculate actual price per print when ordering more than one, simply enter the number of copies you want and the new price per print will be displayed in the on the main product page which can be found in the main menu.

We generally print 8×8 or larger however in some cases you can select custom size options that are smaller. If a small size is not available to you a couple of solutions can be applied to get around this. One option is to tile multiple small prints onto one large sheet. Another option is to create a margin around your image which will increase it’s print size to equal 8 inches, then remove the excess margin upon receiving your prints.

Problems Uploading Files?

Typically any problems using the upload tool are associated to the web browser being used. In most cases if you do not see any sort of upload tool it is because either Flash is not running in your browser and HTML 5 is not supported. This is usually fixed by updating your web browser.

If you do see an uploading interface but nothing happens when clicking the “add files” or “upload” button, this is also usually fixed by updating your web browser. Here are things to try first:

  • Close then reopen your web browser
  • Try rebooting/restarting your computer
  • Install or try a different web browser than what you are using

Updating Your Web Browser

The first step is to make sure you are using the latest version of the browser you use. These are going to be Chrome, FireFox, Safari or Internet Explorer. Doing a google search will get you to the websites where these browsers are offered. They will always have the latest version available for free download and installation.

If that does not work, try installing and using one of the others mentioned above. FinerWorks recommends the following in order: Chrome, FireFox and Internet Explorer. If you are on a MAC Safari might be a good choice to try as well.

File Does Not Progress

Another problem which can occur is the file fails to start or complete the upload process as indicated by a progress bar. This is probably not a problem with your web browser itself but is more associated with a disruption in the Internet connection. People tell us usually trying at a different time of day will resolve this problem.

If none of this seems to work, please feel free to contact us and let us know. Please provide the type of web browser you are using as well as specific details of the problem.

Size availability is related to the style of print being order. It is best to review our pricing page to see what options are available. All our media (canvas and paper) comes in 44 inch rolls so we are limited to being able to fit the image with any added borders on a roll that size. Visit our pricing page for specific size availability.

Categories: Ordering, Shipping

Softproofing relies on having a consistent white level on the surface of the media the image is being printed to. Since the wood is obviously not white and the hue of the wood can vary slightly dependent upon the age of the wood, there is no way to profile a wood print.

Shipping Prints Flat

Mounted prints are packaged in oversized corrugated boxes for added protection. Small to mid size paper prints on fine art papers are usually shipped flat if they can safely fit within a 24×30 inch or smaller area touching the sides of the package. Some exceptions may occur with International orders or if the order also contains prints which normally would be rolled.

Shipping Prints Rolled

Unmounted canvas, regular photo stock prints and and posters will be shipped rolled. Fine art paper prints that are too large to ship flat to be shipped flat (see above) will be shipped in a sturdy corrugated shipping tube.

Shipping non-prints

Other products such as coffee gifts and keepsakes, stationary, etc, will be shipped in various types of packaging.

Drop Shipped Print Orders (Example)

Check out an illustration of a drop shipped canvas here, or a drop shipped paper print here. We package all prints carefully protecting them with corrugated sheets, plastic or foam sleeves and craft paper. Prints which are 20×30 or larger will be shipped rolled in a tube unless it is mounted. Otherwise all prints are shipped flat. Digital prints and products shipped from our Atlanta Pro Lab, will arrive via UPS, the US Postal Service, or Fedex. We have a separate shipping rate schedule for prints shipping from the Atlanta lab.. Prints are shipped either flat or rolled, dependent upon shipping method selected, destination and items being ordered.

The best method for getting accurate prints is something called soft proofing. Soft proofing involves using a calibrated monitor and viewing your image with color profiles assigned to them. • Standard (Yes)
  • Express (Yes)

**International orders rely on the destination country and shipping method. In many cases for small orders tracking might end once it reaches it's last stop before leaving the U.S.

In many instances we do. Contact us ahead of time to discuss special packaging needs and/or inserts.

Whenever we ship an order we will send an e-mail notice to the e-mail address you provided in your billing information. This email will include a link where you can access a copy of this order as well as tracking information when made available. Note that orders shipped from our partner lab may not always have tracking information available.

If you a history of placing a substantial number of orders on a weekly basis at regular intervals we would love to discuss with you various discount programs we can offer based upon the options you plan to order. We will also gauge this on size and style of prints as well as volume.

Product Questions

A giclee prints is a way to classify a professionally produced print using inkjet technology, primarily printed on canvas or a fine art paper with archival grade inks. While the process is only several decades old, it has quickly become the method of choice for both artists and photographers. Read more

All framed prints, acrylic prints, stretched and mounted canvas prints and metal prints will arrive ready-to-hang. Some other prints such as wood prints may have options that also allow for them to be ready to hang.

Category: Canvas Prints

Yes. All canvas prints will be coated with an aqueous coating to help diminish the potential for smudging and scuffing. A print in which the matte canvas is chosen will receive a matte coating while a print in which luster or gloss canvas is selected will receive a luster coating.

For canvas, we use primarily use poly cotton blend canvases by Breathing Color specially coated to receive the inks used by our printers. The canvas has an oxford weave giving it a natural canvas texture as favored by professional photographers. The papers also have their own priming or are also treated to accept the inks we print with. Various finish options are available from matte to gloss canvas.

Both Epson and Canon promotes their inks as being resistant to fading over time and our parent company has been producing canvas prints since around 2001. In that time we have had no one contact us and indicate their print had faded.

Your giclee canvas print will last up to 150 years at least, with the proper care. Although the process of giclee printing has only been around since the latter part of the last century, testing and research confirms that an archival giclee print can have a life-span of 200+ years. Both Epson and Canon promotes their inks as being resistant to fading over time.

Category: Fine Art Papers

Yes. We offer some special request media types for high volume offline orders. Check the options list and make sure you contact us for a quote when you have an opportunity to place a very large order with FinerWorks.

You can! To purchase matting without a frame, just make sure you include a border on your print. Matting options will be found below sizing.

Category: Acrylic Prints

Yes, we can for quantities of 5 or more of the exact same time. Contact us direct since our website does not allow for ordering all custom sizes in acrylic prints.

Category: Acrylic Prints

The method used to create the acrylic prints we offer will provide little risk in fading unless exposed to direct sunlight over a length of time. Since acrylic is a type of polycarbonate, very hot conditions such as a hot car exposed to sunlight can potentially cause it to warp. It is best to keep it indoors in comfortable living conditions exist to prevent this from happening. Also a good measure to help reinforce the acrylic print is the optional die bond backing.

Category: Acrylic Prints

The image is printed directly to the surface using Canon Lucia inks. This allows you to feel the texture of the wood and see the grain in more detail. Each print is given a protective clear coat with UV inhibitors to seal the inks and prevent them from being smudged during casual handling.

Category: Wood Prints

While we have not tested everything out on the market, your typical wood finishes that you find at a hardware store can be applied to the wood without any negative effect.

Category: Wood Prints

White is not a standard color that is printed. Essentially when an image has pure white, no color (ink) is applied.  As the colors in an image get darker, more ink is applied. If your image has pure white, it will appear as transparent. That is where the beauty of wood prints come in since your underlying wood pattern becomes more visible the ligher the color.

Category: Wood Prints

Softproofing relies on having a consistent white level on the surface of the media the image is being printed to. Since the wood is obviously not white and the hue of the wood can vary slightly dependent upon the age of the wood, there is no way to profile a wood print.

Categories: Ordering, Wood Prints

You should not have do anything other then choose or create a custom size that matches as close to your image as possible. For the best results, you may want to elevate the contrast of an image slightly so that more subtle tones you want to show are not lost to too transparent.

Category: Wood Prints

Absolutely. You can use acrylic or oils. One potential option of wood prints for artists that like to paint over wood panels is to use it as an under-painting.

Yes it is. We use acid-free, lignin-free conservation matboard. Our leading frame supplier rates this matting as museum quality.

We offer 2 types of frames, solid wood or polystyrene. Most of our all wood frames have a laminate coating.

Yes. With the exception of framed canvas, all framed prints are finished with Tyvek backing (black or white). All frames include hanging hardware (wire hangers). Keep in mind that glazing and matting is sold separately.

Our system is designed to automatically apply a price break for up to ten duplicate framed prints or frames. For a quantity of more than ten, please contact us directly for pricing.

If you intend to order more than 10 duplicate mats, contact us to find out if you qualify for a price break.

Yes, we do all framing in-house.

Framed prints are normally shipped within 3-4 working days of the order date. Maximum lead time for framing is 5 working days. Some exceptions may apply for special stock, or extremely large orders.

The difference is in the technology used to print the two. We usually refer to the regular photo prints as lab prints since they are produced by modern digital photo printers. The prints on canvas and art papers are produced with high end inkjet printers. For a more detailed explaination, please visit the following blog post:

Adding a border to your print will increase the overall sheet size. It will not cause the print area to be smaller.

We can convert your image to sepia or black and white at no additional charge, in addition to color/contrast fixes. We also offer touch up services in addition to textured brush strokes for canvas prints.

Shipping

Size availability is related to the style of print being order. It is best to review our pricing page to see what options are available. All our media (canvas and paper) comes in 44 inch rolls so we are limited to being able to fit the image with any added borders on a roll that size. Visit our pricing page for specific size availability.

Below is a quick guide to determine if tracking is going to be available. In most cases it is yes

  • Economy (Yes) *
  • Standard (Yes)
  • Express (Yes)
  • International(Yes**)

When your order is shipped we will send you an e-mail informing you that it is on it’s way. There will also be a link to view your order status and get the tracking number for your order. The majority of the time you can click the tracking number itself to see where it is at and estimated date of arrival.

*Our Atlanta photo lab in some cases will use the most inexpensive shipping method to keep rates down for small orders like photo prints. which are using Economy shipping. Because of that tracking services may not always be available for very small orders that weight less than 13oz.

**International orders rely on the destination country and shipping method. In many cases for small orders tracking might end once it reaches it's last stop before leaving the U.S.

In many instances we do. Contact us ahead of time to discuss special packaging needs and/or inserts.

Framed prints are normally shipped within 3-4 working days of the order date. Maximum lead time for framing is 5 working days. Some exceptions may apply for special stock, or extremely large orders.

If you are based outside of the U.S. and want your order drop shipped, we recommend you enter your business information within your account but use our address. This prevents confusion and potential problems which can occur with the shipping service or even customs. This also helps us since we must use a U.S. based address on the customs forms.

Technology

A giclee prints is a way to classify a professionally produced print using inkjet technology, primarily printed on canvas or a fine art paper with archival grade inks. While the process is only several decades old, it has quickly become the method of choice for both artists and photographers. Read more

Sometimes when you upload a very high resolution file it's possible the preview will come out blurry. This happens because we are using a smaller embedded thumbnail data within your image file rather than generating a preview from your high resolution file. It's done as a fallback method if it appears generating the preview from the high resolution file will take too long.

Fortunately your hi-res file will remain intact since we need that to produce your print.

Resolution is a relative number dependent upon the size of the print you choose. The more your image is enlarged, the lower your resolution will be.

Yes, we run regular re-calibration cycles our monitors and run regular cleaning or calibration cycles on our printers. This is to ensure consistent results with every print job. All are calibrated based on standards set by the International Color Consortium (www.color.org).

An ICC (International Color Consortium) Profile is standardized file format created by special computer software. An ICC (also can be ICM) Profile creates a common color space used for color management in printing workflow. ICC Profiles are often used when it is necessary to compensate for color differences between dispirit devices like scanners, digital cameras, computer monitors, ink systems printers, and/or printing presses.

This could stem from a number of factors but the first thing to check is your white balance/white points. Another thing that might result in color shifting is submitting your images for print in CMYK mode instead of RGB mode. Find out more about accuracy in print color

Top Questions

Artists and photographers first began using FinerWorks in 1999 however we official coined our company name as FinerWorks in 2003. We began with making prints exclusively on canvas but soon added fine art papers. Our web technology is setup so people at all levels can order fine art prints of their work on the same sort of papers and canvas placed in galleries, hotels and homes of collectors. Many of our customers are actually showing their work in venues like these or even having them custom made on for their own clients.

Virtual Inventory gives you the ability to store “virtual” prints. Create and store as many prints as you wish, and when you are ready for us to print one, its only a matter of checking out.  Use this quick video tutorial for a walk through the entire process

FinerWorks offers free drop shipping services for any of our customers. It can be selected as an option at checkout or is selected automatically if you have a business registered within your account and have uploaded a logo.

We do. In fact, because frames are “made to order” we do price our custom sizes any differently than those considered to be “standard”.

Yes, we do all framing in-house.

If you have registered with FinerWorks there is an area within your account where you can save your business information such as the company name, department or contact person and address. As long as you have added your business, we will use this information as the sender in place of your order’s billing information.

Uploading Files

It will be up to you to select a print size that compliments your image’s current aspect ratio. If your image file does not quite match those dimensions it will be cropped to accommodate the print size selected. Be sure you pay attention to the realtime preview when you setup your print. If any part of it looks cropped then you may need to choose a different size or adjust the cropping.

Read more

Rasterized PNG, JPG or TIFF files are necessary. If you file is a PDF or vector file (such as Corel Draw or Adobe Illustrator), please convert it. You will need to make these changes before submitting these files for accurate color when printed due to different CMYK and RGB outputs. For instance, many programs like Adobe Illustrator will default to a CMYK color space. Its relatively easy to change it to RGB so make sure you do so before saving a jpg or tif version of your file.

Category: Uploading Files

Because the file is so large, generating a thumbnail would be time consuming for our servers. To speed things up we generate a thumbnal from the embedded thumbnail image. This won’t affect or be used for printing. We always print the original file that was uploaded. It’s just used as a preview.

Category: Uploading Files

Absolutely not. We prefer you upload you file before it was enlarged. Not to say you cannot do this but to do so might result in a poorer quality print then you would have wanted. This is because when you enlarge a digital image you are adding pixels which were never there. Your software will try to guess what those pixels will look like and the more guessing it has to do the more pixelated the image becomes. The reason we prefer you not to do this yourself is so we can warn you if we think the file is too small for the size you selected. In addition if your image is not resized we automatically resize all images ourselves using more advanced algorithms than even Photoshop uses. We resize it to an optimal resolution based on what is being printed. This means we will be able to produce a better enlargement then you probably could. Finally because of the way we enlarge files, enlarging your file before submitting it just increases the file size making it more difficult to upload.

Category: Uploading Files

Your images should be in RGB mode. Images in CMYK color mode are more likely to experience noticeable color shifts which may result in a muted or washed out looking print.

Preferred digital file formats are JPG, PNG, AND TIFF.  We also accept PDF, PSD, AI, BMP, AND EPS formats. Please keep in mind that image storage accepts JPG files only.

Currently, this is not an option we are able to offer.

As an on demand printer, we must adhere to the same regulations and standards that anyone else does. To learn more about protecting your intellectual property, take time to read over one of our recent blogs here.

We only display low web viewable versions of the images in the Select Gallery. There are mechanisms in place to protect images from being copied but even today any 12 year old with basic grade school computer skills can bypass these. If you are too worried that people will copy your web viewable images, we recommend not participating in the gallery experience.

Wood Prints

All framed prints, acrylic prints, stretched and mounted canvas prints and metal prints will arrive ready-to-hang. Some other prints such as wood prints may have options that also allow for them to be ready to hang.
